MultiChoice Namibia & The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation call for local film proposals

Have an idea that is made for television? Now is your time to shine!

MultiChoice Namibia and the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) are calling on experienced film makers and producers to submit film proposals that reflect truly authentic Namibian stories. These made-for-TV film ideas should provide an escape into the fresh and exciting world of local content.

The time has come for local creatives to showcase their talents, in producing content designed to cater for diverse audiences. “We believe that with this massive investment into our film industry, we remain committed to supporting local production houses, including talented actors, writers and filmmakers.” says Managing Director Roger Gertze.

During the media event announcing the Call for Submissions, MultiChoice Namibia and NBC initiated a symbolic gesture based on the renewal of the carriage agreement. For years, MultiChoice has showcased original and diverse Namibian content on their platforms through a carriage agreement that has made the national broadcaster’s channels available on DStv and GOtv.

“Over the years, NBC has been the trusted national broadcaster of choice that has been dedicated to showcasing local content. MultiChoice Namibia has greatly assisted us with broadening our spectrum through its platforms. The renewal of the carriage agreement further strengthens our long-standing partnership to deliver quality local content to our audiences, and the implementation of the Call for Submissions is proof of that,” said NBC Director-General, Stanely Benjamin Similo.

Film Submission Guidelines

Proposals must include the following: Relatable characters; themes covering real-life experiences like love, hope, betrayal etc; and unique, and a fresh and exciting treatment of the above-mentioned themes. Replicas of ideas/storylines that already exist will not be accepted.

Made for TV-film concepts may be in Namibian local languages, however they must be culturally relevant and specific to the setting of the story. Any dialogue in other indigenous languages should include English subtitles. The duration of the film should be 50 minutes and accepted genres include: comedy, family drama, action or romantic comedy and should be suitable for family viewing.

Your proposal should include:

  1. Overview of company – writers/director/DOP.
  2. Logline
  3. Genre
  4. Synopsis – which gives overview of beginning, middle and end of film.
  5. Characters
  6. A summary of the main character / hero’s  journey
  7. Budget estimate (figure only, not full budget)

Interested parties must send their proposals to CallForSubmissionsNam@na.multichoice.com by 25 March 2022 before 23:39. Submissions are only open to persons who are citizens or permanent residents of Namibia.
