MultiChoice Innovation Fund on the road to unearth new innovators

MultiChoice Group, in partnership with the Economic Development Agency in Limpopo, hosted entrepreneurs and SMEs under the theme ‘Spurring a culture of innovation within the SME segment of South Africa’.

The seminar was aimed at furthering the goals of the Innovation Fund by driving innovation in the tech and video entertainment sector and unearthing entrepreneurs with unique business ideas.

“We operate in an industry driven by technological advancements. The Innovation Fund is about giving life to exciting, innovative ideas and developing entrepreneurs that will shape industries,” says Moalusi. “MultiChoice Group is a leading investor in local content and as part of our corporate social responsibility, we hope that through the Fund, we will contribute towards the creation of future jobs by supporting emerging entrepreneurs that have game-changing ideas.”

The aim of the regional seminars was to extend the reach of the Innovation Fund to black entrepreneurs across the country. The seminars also provided a platform to identify business prospects, understand unique challenges and highlight the various funding and business development opportunities.

The last one-day seminar in Polokwane included exciting and inspiring presentations by various speakers, including Honourable Mr Thabo Andrew Mokone, the MEC from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Dr Matata Mokoele, the CEO of the Limpopo Economic Development Agency, Programme Director, Mr Nghamule “TeeCee” Chauke and Mr Reggy Moalusi from the MultiChoice Group.

The MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Affairs in Limpopo, Thabo Mokone, had this to say to the entrepreneurs:  “Take advantage of the opportunities we are offering you, the Limpopo Economic Development Programme helps with vast opportunities like building malls. If you want to build a mall we will assist you. We want to help fund you.” MEC Mokone added: “The youth need to look beyond winning tenders. I wish young people well through our partnership with MultiChoice. What we can guarantee Limpopo is that the sky is the limit, what's important is to have skills."

The series of seminars was also a great opportunity to meet with key stakeholders, network with fellow entrepreneurs and learn about trends in the ICT and media sectors, both nationally and globally.
